Why Do We Pray After The Game
Why do we pray after the game instead of before? Let’s talk about why. Here at FCA, we’re building emPOWERed kids: young people who think of team, teammate, then self.
When we pray before the game, it's easy. They're not tired, they haven’t had a tough game, and their jerseys are still clean. Or, on the other hand, they’re feeling great — they just won by 20 points, played an incredible game, and everyone’s cheering for them. But life isn’t always like that, right? Life can be hard, and things don’t always go our way.
We want to teach our kids that their worth and identity aren’t found on the scoreboard, whether it’s a good or bad game. Their identity is in Jesus.
That’s what it means to be real. And that’s why we’ve decided to huddle up after the game — to shift our focus from the court back to Jesus. It keeps us humble and prevents the sting of defeat or shame from carrying over to the car ride home.
And let me be real with you, parents. The same applies to us. When you’re frustrated with a call, a play, a coach, or maybe even your own athlete, remember: your identity isn’t tied to their performance. Your purpose as a parent isn’t just their success on the court — it’s empowering them to know where their true identity lies. And that’s in Jesus.
I truly believe that you’re just one thought, one word, or one action away from a totally different life. Let’s build emPOWERed kids together.
📢 Why We Pray After the Game
❓Here’s why we’ve moved our prayer circle to after the game:
💪 We’re creating emPOWERed kids who think team → teammate → self. Praying after the game helps them shift focus from the court to Jesus, no matter how the game went.
🏆 Life Lesson: True identity isn’t tied to the scoreboard, win or lose — it’s found in Jesus.
👨👩👧👦 Parent Challenge: Our purpose as parents isn’t in our kids' success, but in helping them find who they are in Christ.
